On 8 February, Perspektivet Museum in Tromsø will be opening an exhibition entitled “The Norwegian Journal of Photography Goes North!” This will be a group exhibition of the works of seven NJP photographers.

Today’s media landscape challenges the boundaries of established documentary photography. Can a photograph be documentary and artistic at the same time?

In the seven projects on exhibit at Perspective Museum in Tromsø, the photographers used their cameras to explore the world and tell stories. Their approaches vary from a fragmented snapshot aesthetic and isolated images to longer photo essays and digital manipulation.

Thematically, there is tremendous variation in the projects. Living in exile, fast fashion, and what happens in a family when dad becomes mum, cover only a few of the photographers’ projects.

One theme common to all the projects is nevertheless the wish to explore the world we share and the challenges we currently face. How do questions about sustainability and cross-border interaction influence us as individuals?
