And how can the photographer\u2019s voice be heard?<\/p>\n<p>Anderson will talk about his work in war and conflict zones, and about how he has developed his own visual voice in the close, intimate photography he has moved towards recently.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Canada,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.magnumphotos.com\/photographer\/christopher-anderson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christopher Anderson<\/a>\u00a0grew up in Texas. In 2000, he boarded a small wooden boat with 44 Haitian refugees bound for the US. The boat sank in the Caribbean, and Anderson was awarded the Robert Capa Barren Medal for the work he did then, which marked the start of a ten-year stint as a contract photographer for Newsweek and National Geographic.<\/p>\n<p>After joining Magnum Photos in 2005, he has published a number of books, both documentary projects and more personal stories. Among them is the book\u00a0<em>SON<\/em>, in which he follows his son\u2019s birth and early life.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5085\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5085 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/njp.0ncpmyjsjngkvdiv.prev.site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/chris_collage01-1024x675-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"675\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5085\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5085\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Christopher Anderson \/ Magnum Photos<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Christopher Anderson is currently working on the project\u00a0<em>Bleu Blanc Rouge<\/em>, a kind of open meditation about French culture and identity. He started working on this in 2010 when he was in the south of France, but he moved in another direction after the terrorist attacks in France and the emergence of the ultra-nationalistic party, the National Front.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lindabournane.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linda Bournane Engelberth<\/a>\u00a0also began her career in a more classic documentary tradition, when she worked for Klassekampen and on the project about the Romani people in Oslo, her contribution to The Norwegian Journal of Photography #1.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, she has said that she has challenged herself, in terms of photography and storytelling alike, to open up and try new ways of telling stories, as we can see in her photo project\u00a0<em>Persona<\/em>, in which she gives her mother, who died in 2013, an alternative, fictitious life.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5087\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5087 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/njp.0ncpmyjsjngkvdiv.prev.site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/linda_collage01-1024x504-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"504\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5087\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5087\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Linda Bournane Engelberth \/ VII<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>After her mother\u2019s death, the photographer realised how much of her mother\u2019s story and illness she carried with her, and she wanted to make a project from the time before her mother fell ill. She studied earlier pictures of her mother and her mother\u2019s friends, then recreated them, casting herself as her mother. In the new story, her mother gets pregnant, marries and is healthy.<\/p>\n<p>Like Anderson\u2019s projects, Linda B. Engelberth\u2019s projects are set in a context that extends beyond up close and personal.
