Sj\u00f8vold works with an idiom that clearly draws inspiration from documentary and art photography alike. The editors are fascinated by the way in which she challenges the viewer with her pictures.<\/h3>\n

Her ideas are profoundly personal, and she lets us accompany her into situations and stories that can sometimes feel unpleasant. This is a way of using photography that the NJP feels oversteps the customary borders of the documentary genre, but Sj\u00f8vold nevertheless tells an extremely good story with her pictures. Her project is original and provocative.<\/p>\n

At Night we Sleep<\/h4>\n

S\u00f8vnen og natten er mitt utgangpunkt for \u00e5 portrettere mennesker i \u00abAt night we sleep\u00bb. Gjennom flere netter fotograferer jeg dem i deres egen seng, og det som skjer i deres n\u00e6rmeste omgivelser mens de sover. Jeg viser mennesket i sin mest intime, ukontrollerte og s\u00e5rbare tilstand. Det gir et innblikk i en verden vi alle er en del av, men som allikevel de f\u00e6rreste kjenner til. I et helhetlig portrett skildrer jeg den unike stemningen og tilstanden mellom dr\u00f8m og virkelighet som oppst\u00e5r i deres hjem og sinn p\u00e5 natten. For \u00e5 kunne vise hvem de sovende virkelig er, bygger jeg opp portrettet av tre deler som skaper en st\u00f8rre helhet:\u2028\u2028Del 1. Hva skjer rundt oss mens vi sover? De n\u00e6re omgivelsene til den som sover, og det som skjer hvis han\/hun v\u00e5kner i l\u00f8pet av natten.\u2028Del 2. Personens natt i sengen. Fotograferes b\u00e5de som en studie av s\u00f8vnen og med en st\u00f8rre tilstedev\u00e6relse.\u2028Del 3. Personens dr\u00f8mmer igjennom natten. P\u00e5virker min skildring av mennesket og redigeringen av serien.\u2028\u2028Min tilstedev\u00e6relse vil p\u00e5virke deres s\u00f8vn i l\u00f8pet av natten, men ved \u00e5 v\u00e6re der over flere netter vil det komme muligheter til \u00e5 utforske den ubevisste verden.<\/p>\n
