{"id":1379,"date":"2012-11-08T10:47:11","date_gmt":"2012-11-08T09:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.njp.no\/?p=1379"},"modified":"2023-03-22T08:30:02","modified_gmt":"2023-03-22T07:30:02","slug":"andrea-gjestvang-named-freelancer-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/njp.no\/en\/2012\/andrea-gjestvang-named-freelancer-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Andrea Gjestvang named Freelancer of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Photographer Andrea Gjestvang, a member of the NJP group, has been named Freelancer of the Year.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The freelance journalists in the Norwegian Union of Journalists are responsible for naming the Freelancerof the Year, and this year\u2019s jury consisted of Linn Stalsberg, \u00c5shild Eidem, Per Asbj\u00f8rn Risnes jr. and Paul S. Amundsen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/njp.no\/2012\/andrea-gjestvang-arets-frilanser\/gjestvang_frilanser\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1355\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1355\" title=\"gjestvang_frilanser\" src=\"https:\/\/njp.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/gjestvang_frilanser.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"209\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a>The jury states: \u201cAndrea Gjestvang is a freelancer who has spent tremendous energy on few, but meticulously prepared projects. Sometimes this kind of work does not yield returns in the short term. It calls for great personal commitment, and it is not characterised by compromise &#8211; quite to the contrary. That merits respect. With the project \u201cDisappearing Ice Age\u201d, she portrayed life on Greenland over a long period of time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe also spent several months in Finnmark County for the project \u2018Everybody Knows This is Nowhere\u2019, working exclusively on her own project. However, she does not stop there: She returns and spends new, long periods of time among young people in Finnmark County to make a photo documentary that takes us behind the clich\u00e9s. At a time characterised by a steady stream of fast-breaking news, we were impressed and inspired by this slower, more thorough way of working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The jury also attached emphasis to Gjestvang&#8217;s involvement on behalf of other freelancers with the blog \u2018Heartbeat Photography\u2019, on which, along with Photographer Marie Sj\u00f8vold, she promotes other female photographers.
